GRAPHIC HARVESTING – LIVE DRAWING FACILITATION
Live drawing and graphic harvesting is used in facilitated sessions to capture ideas. No more boring whiteboards full of words! See concepts, problems, and innovations illustrated on the go, helping to keep contributions flowing and generate new ideas. Use drawings after the event as a reminder and in your reports, communications and publications.
We work with your facilitator or provide our own. Cafe style workshops, brainstorming sessions and flow diagram workshops all handled by our in-house expert. Clients inlude: Telkom, Allan Gray, University of Cape Town, Lufthansa, Fishing industry, Automotive industry, and others.
Telkom/Business Connexion Summit
A large team building and conferencing event between Telkom and BCX (Business Connexion) following the merger of the two companies, and celebration of sales successes. This huge event aimed to bring two groups of employees together and help them become one team. The event mixed fun with more serious content. Pete provided graphic harvesting - or live drawing - as entertainment during presentations by senior managers. He had prepared according to a planned set of slides and metaphors but had to improvise when the presenters introduced new ideas on the spot! The initial illustrations were projected live in front of 500+ participants. Following the event, final images were used as a reminder to employees.

UCT Strategy Planning Workshop
Directors from the Department of Student Affairs got together to workshop strategy for the next five years. We listened as each person gave a presentation on current affairs, their priorities and plans. Pete captured these ideas as a series of symbolic drawings, which were projected live from a digital tablet. Later Elaine was able to assist the department to write up a draft strategy, using her notes and the final illustrations as a reminder of the session and the central ideas that emerged.

Mothers For The Future
Mothers For The Future is a program run by SWEAT (Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce). SWEAT wanted to make a video about motherhood in which the women would be portrayed as superheros. A comic artist was needed to create caricatures of the women together with typical scenes showing motherhood in their everyday lives. Pete was contracted to create graphics live over one afternoon from video footage of interviews with selected sex workers. He used traditional materials ink on paper.

Pete was contracted by the BBC on the eve of this high profile trial as no photography had been allowed. He attended court with the media, working on a digital tablet to capture people, scenes, and the atmosphere of the trial. One of the challenges was complying with court rules which meant limited freedom of movement; he had only 2 or 3 angles from which to draw. Other challenges were creating variety and coping with the lengthy nature of proceedings. The digital format was perfect for the press as rich color could be used and drawings could be ready to publish immediately after a court session. Pete created 78 images over the course of the trial, which were used on TV, video and in print.

Allen Gray Breakaway
Three artists were contracted to work with Allen Gray at a West Coast breakaway venue. Each artist worked with a small group from a different part of the organisation in a relaxed indoor setting to flesh out ideas around current issues, priorities, and visions for the future. Pete worked using markers on large pieces of paper pasted on the wall to capture ideas from the flow of dialog between the participants. One of the challenges was dealing with financial concepts and jargon, which he did by asking questions; in turn this helped participants to break down concepts, get an outsider perspective and use simple, common language to express ideas. A week later, under direction from the client, the final images (pictured here) were developed.

A workshop between Global Telesales (GTS) and parent company Lufthansa. Senior Lufthansa executive came to Cape Town to open channels of communication with GTS which it had recently acquired. The participants discussed their mutual interests, processes and challenges. The workshop was conducted over 2 days by an independent facilitator, using the World Cafe methodology. Pete worked closely with the facilitator to integrate live illustrations in exchanges between the participants. Final images were later used as communications collateral.

SA Maritime Conference
The conference was held at the CTICC in Cape Town. Pete worked with facilitators from Win Win consultancy to represent industry issues and concepts against a map of South Africa. The purpose of the session, held in a large auditorium, was for stakeholders to learn about each other's part in the bigger picture. Pete worked digitally from the media room under direction of the facilitator, placing drawings on the map, moving them around, zooming in and out as necessary. He also added elements live and the results were projected on a large screen in front of the audience. Pete had prepared for the session by attending industry talks and sketching out ideas in advance.
